Renew your wedding vows in the Maldives where your officiant will make fun of you in a foreign language...

10/28/10
Go away or I will mock you a second time!

Let's forget, for a moment, the thought process of renewing your vows in a language you can't understand, this couple paid $1300 to have their wedding vows renewed in Dhivehi at Vilu Reef Beach and Spa Resort on the Maldives. They were not aware that for that price they ALSO received a frank discussion of the wife's boobs, the Maldives Penal Code, nursery rhymes, chicken buggery, staff salaries, and their infidel nature.

When asked for comment, Vilu Reef Manager Mohamed Rasheed said the video was posted on Youtube as a joke. Clearly...as the owner of the Vilu Reef, Sun Travel Shiyam, was present at th ceremony.

Welcome to Afghanistan island!

Another brilliant Villanova study: The correspondance of porn watching to winning an election

10/28/10
Obama is a LONG LEGGED MACK DADDY...WAAAAAHHHH!!!

Patrick Markey of Villanova University has published a study in Evolution and Human Behavior concerning the "challenge hypothesis." The hypothesis goes something like this: when a male wins a fight for a mate, his testosterone goes up and when he looses, it goes down. How did Patrick Markey study it? Among others, he tracked states that voted in the 2008 presidential elections. In the states that voted for Obama, pornography web traffic went up on election night. In those that voted for McCain, pornography traffic went down on election night.

So ladies, if the Congressman you and your husband voted for wins next week, you better knock on the door of your husband's office instead of just barging in...

Foreign food reality vs. American expectations

They boogers too, right?

Interesting article that compares (via a Venn diagram) what WE think foreigners eat on the left with what they actually eat on the right. Things we get right are in the middle.

Larry King mistakes footage of a guy walking off of another show for him walking off of HIS show

10/27/10

If you listen to his old, waiving voice and observe how he can't tell the footage playing is from the OTHER show he is CURRENTLY discussing, you have to conclude that Larry King should retire.

Don't let pregnancy get in the way of a crack addiction

Project Prevention is an organization that pays drug addicts cash to get sterilized. Although some skeptics claim it is immoral and a stepping stone to eugenics, it is totally voluntary. Why let pregnancy get in the way of a coke addiction?

Article parodies science articles by writing article about science articles using all the tricks science articles use. Huh??

Journalism in science is lacking as well

This is for Frank and Gianmarc. Here is a funny article that uses all the stereotypical templates that science articles use to write about bad science, bad research or boring topics. Excerpt:

I will preface them with "it is believed" or "scientists think" to avoid giving the impression of passing any sort of personal judgement on even the most inane facts.

This fragment will be put on its own line for no obvious reason.

In this paragraph I will reference or quote some minor celebrity, historical figure, eccentric, or a group of sufferers; because my editors are ideologically committed to the idea that all news stories need a "human interest", and I'm not convinced that the scientists are interesting enough.
