EPA set to ban lead in bullets for being too toxic

08/27/10
Your unsafe activity must be less unsafe!

In an effort to make bullets less lethal, the EPA wants to prohibit the use of lead in the manufacturing of said bullets. Wrap your mind around that one.

Hopefully Michael and Karen will avoid Prince George's Hospital if they get sick in their new house...

08/25/10
Rent-a-cops. I hate Rent-a-cops TOO!
Joseph Wheeler was involved in a very serious car accident and woke up in Prince George's Hospital in UPPER MARLBORO, MD. He claims that when he asked for some food from the nurse, she told him he couldn't eat because of his upcoming surgery to remove a cancerous growth. Apparently they mis-identified him. When no explanation of this could convince the hospital, he attempted to leave.

The hospital rent-a-cops allegedly responded with EXTREME PREJUDICE! After his escape to a real hospital, he is suing Prince George's Hospital for $12.7 million.

Note - I can't find any other references to this story on the net so take it with a grain of salt. Generally, Courthousenews.com is a pretty reputable source.

Antwun Parker (armed robber, killed by the person he was robbing) is a hero?

08/21/10
Antwun Parker's mom keeps using that word. I do not think it means what she thinks it means...

When asked about the people who called Jerome Ersland a "hero" for defending himself and killing one of his robbers, Cleta Jennings, bad mother of the dead robber, said that actually...her son is the hero. Well doesn't that reflect well on the Oklahoma city community?

Derrick Z. Jackson wonders why Girls aren't allowed in the Boy Scouts

08/08/10
Derrick Z Jackson has never heard about the Girl Scouts

The Boston Globe website published an article/op-ed by Derrick Z. Jackson in which he pointed out the sexism rife in Boy Scouts. While the Boy Scouts offer leadership training, outdoors exercise and teamwork skills to boys, they shun girls. Perhaps someone should start an organization in which GIRLS are trained as SCOUTS. If you want to see some real wit, view the comments at the bottom of the article.

This is why newspapers are failing. Quality journalism is dead.

Christian Science Monitor: Prepare for the imminent Evangelical collapse

08/04/10
Derp

This is an interestingly hopeful article about the soon-to-come collapse of the Christian Taliban.

Exerpt:

Ironically, the billions of dollars we've spent on youth ministers, Christian music, publishing, and media has produced a culture of young Christians who know next to nothing about their own faith except how they feel about it.

Interesting rant on how the government doesn't really suck at everything...

03/23/10
The Gipper hates big government...except for the parts that he made bigger

Here is a link to a screenshot of a rant posted on www.4chan.org. The /b/ forum is general host to scat pics, sex, anti-scientology, racism and anything else that is even marginally offensive. But occasionally are these gems. Here is the text below, corrected for grammar and readability:

This morning, I was awoken by my alarm clock, powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly (and) regulated by the US department of Energy. I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the municipal water utility. After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC regulated channels to see what the National Weather Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). I watched this while eating my breakfast of US Department of Agriculture inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

At the appropriate time as regulated by the US Congress and kept accurate by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the US Naval Observatory, I get into my National Highway Traffic Safety Administration approved automobile and set out to work on the roads built by the local, state and federal Departments of Transportation (DOT), possibly stopping to purchase fuel of a quality level determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, using legal tender issued by the Federal Reserve Bank. On the way out the door, I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the US Postal Service and drop the kids off at the public school.

After work, I drive my NHTSA car back on the DOT roads, to a house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and fire marshall's inspection, and which has not been plundered of all its valuables, thanks to the local police department.

I then log onto the internet which was developed by the Defence Advanced Research Projects Administration (DARPA) and post on freerepublic.com and fox news forums about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can't do anything right.

OK...here are some corrections/comments:

- Most weather satellites are made by private industry but REGULATED by NASA
- The FCC has WAY overstepped its authority with respect to censorship...but it is good at regulating the frequencies on which stations send their broadcasts
- The NHTSA is not the greatest example of a well run organization with the whole Toyota debacle
- The EPA doesn't regulate the quality of the fuel - that is the Department of Energy
- The Federal Reserve is a private industry and should be abolished (Go Ron Paul!)

So yeah...the government does do things right, from time to time.

Woman pays undercover cop to wack her husband...

03/09/10
The Whole Nine Yards

Because of a bitter divorce, Susan Williams allegedly tried to pay an undercover cop to beat up her (ex) husband, Peter. When she discovered that he could just be killed for the low, low price of $20k, she upgraded (allegedly). Luckily for him, his former mafia hitman/neighbor saved the day.
