United Airlines must really, REALLY hate people who get good deals on flights...

Booked this flight a year ago? NO FLIGHT FOR YOU!

Anita Cabral and her family booked a flight to Hawaii for herself and her family with United Airlines to visit a dieing family member before he died. They did their due diligence and reserved a beach house 1 year in advanced. They also booked their flights 6 months prior to the trip. They even bought TRAVEL insurance!

So 24 hours before the flight, they get the "Please Check-In" email but when they get to the website, it doesn't work. They called United and attempted to check-in over the phone. Now here is where this story goes BEYOND the normal "shitty customer service from an airline" story.

They were told the flight was cancelled...

...but wait, another person who made a separate reservation already checked-in to the flight?!

They were told the computer "lost" the reservation...

...but why did they get an EMAIL telling them to check in?

They were told their seats were sold to someone else. Wait, WHAT? Yes, their seats were sold to someone who, most likely, paid a LOT more for those seats. But United didn't end there. They refused(and still refuse) to write a letter taking responsibility for screwing this family over to the insurance company. So that $10,000 they spent on the beach house is gone.

Oh yeah...the family member they were going to visit died a couple weeks after they were supposed to have visited. United Airlines, folks!
